Aeralik

Former EverQuest II developer who caused drama on EQ2Flames.

Summary

Aeralik is a former EverQuest II developer. According to some EQ2Flames users, he had sex with a few players at the Sony Online Entertainment convention "FanFaire" - in exchange for in-game items. But whatever about that.

He played as a dark elf assassin in the game, and worked with balancing races (such as frogs or barbarians) and classes (such as necromancers and paladins.) However, he liked to better his own favorite race/class and make everything else weaker. Therefore, players did not like him that much.

2008 Drama

It got even worse though, in early 2008, when someone outed his character name and dox on EQ2Flames. Aeralik, who somehow had mod powers when he wasn't supposed to, freaked out and deleted it all. LFG, the owner of EQ2Flames, put up a poll that asked if developers should have their public info outed. Aeralik said:

Afterward, Sony Online Entertainment ceased contact and posting on EQ2Flames. Read the EQ2Flames page for information on that.

2009 Drama

In early 2009, EQ2Flames user Cracatoa posted a "Fire Aeralik" thread - and oddly enough, Aeralik was demoted.

Another former EQ2 developer, Locke, came in and posted about office politics with the gaming industry. There are also screencaps of this in the gallery.

In November 2009, Aeralik left his job at SOE. He returned to post on EQ2Flames one last time:

There is no real good gossip to be honest. They asked me what happened. I said I modded a thread with access given to me for that reason. After that I had no further input in the situation and the powers that be did what they felt was right. It's all pretty boring honestly and was just way overblown from nothing.

Origins

Aeralik is a MMORPG developer who worked on EverQuest II's mechanics, and now works on the same for Trion Worlds' Rift.

Rise to fame

When he worked on EverQuest II, he posted at EQ2Flames every so often, and somehow had mod powers. (This was because the admin, LFG, does not know how to Internet and screwed up.)

An argument between LFG and Aeralik led Sony Online Entertainment and all of its developers to cut contact with EQ2Flames.

Current status

He is currently a developer on Trion World's 2011 MMORPG, Rift. EQ2Flames doesn't really care about him anymore.


Facts

  • Aeralik is probably somewhere between his mid-thirties to forties.
  • He had relations with a girl that famous EQ2 player Gaige also... had times with. Sloppy seconds, actually.
  • EQ2Flames is now neutral with Aeralik.
