Summary
Agony in Pink is a fan fiction written by "The Dark Ranger." It features Kimberly, the Pink Power Ranger, being tortured to death by Lord Zedd and his monster "Tortura." The author wrote it as an erotic fan fiction.
It was widely panned, and controversial. It is often considered to be among the worst fan fiction.
Why is it so damn famous in an age where there are probably equally grotesque and disturbing fan fiction stories about other characters or real people? Because AIP came first.
Origins
The fan fiction was first posted onto Usenet's alt.sex.stories newsgroup on November 16, 1994. The internet was a much smaller place in 1994 than it is today, so it easily became infamous in many internet communities. The author later remade the story as "Agony in Pink: Special Edition."
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was an American television show aimed at children. It was a remake of the Japanese Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger. Amy Jo Johnson portrayed Kimberly.
We have no idea who the "Dark Ranger" is. He/she used the Penet remailer to post the story and other stories, so his/her identity was concealed.
On May 11, 1997, he/she published "Agony in Pink – The Special Edition" which is a reworked version of the same story. A guy named Tom Rockwell made the painting "Agony," based off of the story. Yes.. somebody even drew a piece of artwork based on the story!
Current status
Still somewhat infamous.
Facts
- The author planned on writing a sequel starring Kat (another Pink ranger), which would have been titled "Agony in Pink 2: To Skin a Kat", but instead decided to write a fic where Kat tortures Kimberly ("Agony in Pink 2 – A New Ending") - Dark Ranger said he/she got inspiration from Marquis de Sade and the "Pain Dr." online series
- He also made a fanfiction where Power Rangers in Space yellow ranger Ashley is tortured
- The author wrote "Interrogation of Leia" (a torture fanfiction of Princess Leia of Star Wars), and "Holly's Home Invasion" (an "original fic" where four lesbians attack a woman, but leave her alive at the end)
- In 2004 Ovens, a guy from the website 17chan, wrote "Agony in Red," featuring Power Ranger Jason being tortured. But it is NOT erotic; it was written as a dare after ~rmuser dared Ovens to top AIP. The fanfiction features the phrase "Your resistance only makes my penis harder!" as a statement from Tortura
- Australia blocked a newsgroup because it had AIP
- Somebody named Dave Aitel took AIP and replaced several names in it, rechristening it "Agony in Whitehat"
- Lord Zedd became Al Huger, Tortura became Veritasa, Goldar became John Thompson, Putties became Symantec interns...
- Zordon is Waisman, Alberts takes the place of Alpha-5 and Tommy, Angel Grove became Immunitysec, Kimberly is now Justine Aitel, Jason is now Sinan Erin, Zack is Dave, Nicolas takes the place of Billy and Jason... and in a few places the author forgot to delete Trini
- Turns out Justine Aitel is the CEO of a real life information security company called Immunity!
