Summary
When you want to know something... what do you do? Google it. In China, people don't use Google so much. It's all about Baidu. Alexa says that it's the #6 website on the entire World Wide Web... and #1 in China
Many famous Chinese internet memes originated from Baidu. For instance Jia Junpeng came from Baidu's World of Warcraft forums. What brother is (doing) is not X, but loneliness also became very popular over Baidu.
It also has a clone of Wikipedia (Baidu Baike), but in Simplified Chinese, and edited to fit the government's view of things. The Baidu 10 Mythical Creatures meme, including the Grass Mud Horse, came from Baidu Baike vandals.
