A site that exposes Bert's true nature

Summary

Bert is Evil was a website showing the supposedly nefarious deeds of Bert, the beloved Sesame Street characters. The site showed shopped photos portraying Bert hobnobbing with evil people and figures. The website began in 1997, and in 1998 Dino Ignacio, the founder, got a Webby Award.

In 1998 Ignacio said that he could no longer offer the site, but would be glad to have others host mirrors for him. So many mirrors of "Bert is Evil" popped up like mold. The mirror by Dennis Pozniak added a photoshop of Bert with Osama bin Laden.

After September 11, a group of guys in Bangladesh wanted to start a pro-Osama bin Laden protest. The guy making the posters added the photo of Bert with Osama, not knowing that Bert was a popular American cartoon character. The world laughed upon realizing who was on that protest poster.

Ignacio, though, did not find it funny at all, and neither did Sesame Workshop, the owner of the character.
