Summary
Brian Peppers is an Ohio sex offender whose mugshot became a meme in 2005. The likely causes of his deformed appearance are Aspert's or Crouzon's Syndrome. Peppers has always been a private individual, and as such his disease is not confirmed, nor is the nature of the crime he was originally arrested for. Many people doubted the picture's authenticity, which caused a Snopes investigation. The mugshot has been confirmed to be real.
On YTMND, a user named grimaf made this sad YTMND explaining Peppers' situation, this caused many users to delete their own Peppers related YTMND's. Eventually, a man claiming to be Allen Peppers, Brian's younger brother, made a series of posts stating that Peppers is innocent and should be left alone. This culminated in his final post, claiming Brian had killed himself after being unable to cope with the embarrassment of being an internet meme. Allen Peppers was proven to be a troll, partially because the end of that YTMND features Brian Peppers in a time machine. Brian Peppers is still alive to this day.
Brian Peppers is most notable to the Wikipedia community as a huge target of debate. While he was a meme, there was debate over if he reached the notability requirement. The deletion log shows no less than fifty separate actions. The arguments got sickening for founder Jimbo Wales, and he deleted the article in February, 2006, saying to end the debate for one year. Jimbo left the door open for recreation in 2007, but this was unsuccessful. Brian Peppers' article remains deleted to this day, and this will likely continue as the meme is largely unused these days.
Origins
Born November 1, 1968 in Maumee (suburb of Toledo), Ohio, Peppers was arrested in 1998 for "gross sexual imposition" in Lucas County, Ohio. Gross sexual imposition refers to many possible criminal acts, leaving it vague as to what Mr. Peppers actually did. It is known, however, that he received 30 days of jailtime as well as five years of probation.
Rise to fame
Peppers' mugshot was found in 2005 on an internet sex offender database. It is likely the image became a meme because of Peppers' perceived grotesque appearance. YTMND was perhaps the site most instrumental in spreading Peppers as a meme.
Current status
Peppers is no longer a commonly used meme. This may be due to people learning he is disabled, because Wikipedia refused to give him an article, or simply because it's an old meme. Peppers is no longer on the online sex offender database. It is unknown if this is because of the amount of time that has elapsed, or because of how often the listing was abused.
