Buy a dog
The final solution when faced with Anonymous
- Date Discovered: 07/2007
- Discovered On: 4chan
Summary
Back in the good ol' days of 2007, there was a Fox News exposé on Anonymous, more specifically internet hackers. Their subject, Alex Wuori, had his MySpace hacked and vandalized, resulting in the usual lulz gathered by such stunts. However, this particular upstanding young man decided to take it to the Media.
Not only did he face further internet ridicule, but his mother flipped her lid and decided immediately that the internet is serious business. In her counterproductive delirium, she purchased a full security system for her house, upped her phone line security, and bought a dog.
The latter delighted and shocked Anonymous, resulting in instant mockery and mild fear. After that point, BUYING A DOG was considered the quickest and most effective way to fend off Anonymous, and eventually the best way to fix most problems. In response, however, a slew of secondary submemes arose regarding defeating or debilitating the dog to achieve success, often delicious cake.
Current status
'Buy a Dog' quickly became a meme after the initial report, though recently it's sparsely used outside of 4chan. There has been no follow-up as to the success or failure of Mrs. Wuori's dog.
