Summary

Canvas is an imageboard website created with the intention of providing a SFW environment in which images can be remixed easily through built-in applications. Basically, it's a SFW version of 4chan. The site is currently in a closed beta state, though threads can now be viewed by non-registered users if they have a direct link or embed.

After realizing that it is impossible to monetize a website that is covered in CP and gore, Moot attempted to make some money with a legitimate startup. Having some credibility for creating 4chan, he caught the attention of some investors who provided a first round of funding for Canvas - seemingly fully aware they would never get a return on that investment.

Origins

Created in Jan 2011 as Moot's first non-4chan project.

Current status

Despite a torrent of awful press from various tech blogs and different Anonymous attacks against Canvas and Moot personally, the site continues to operate.

It is still in a closed beta, though threads can be viewed directly through embeds or links.

  • Has been in beta for nearly four months now, despite attacks and overwhelming disregard for it's bad service.
