Summary

The primitively designed yet strenuously compiled Cosmoetica is a popular literary website administrated by Dan Schneider, an Ebert-approved film critic and semi-published poet with provocative opinions on the past, present, and future history of poetry. For instance, Schneider once created controversy at the Q&A session for Robert Bly's poetry collection Loving a Woman in Two Worlds by asking why Bly was such a "lousy poet." Schneider soon went from criticizing Mr. Bly to criticizing contemporary poets in general, believing them to be involved in an "incestuous" circle of self-promotion, akin to what certain YTMND users would call a "circle jerk." Cosmoetica is full of such criticisms, though Schneider invites the time to praise his own poems, and that of his wife, Jessica Lester Schneider. Perhaps Schneider is best known for his review of White Teeth, the prodigious debut novel of biracial British literary superstar Zadie Smith.

Current status

Cosmoetica has recently featured Schneider's essays on a variety of topics, ranging from Nietzsche and the Nazis to UFOs, the Iraq War, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy, as well as generous selections from a multi-volume autobiography called True Life.
