Summary
DMT, or Dimethyltryptamine, is a chemical that is produced by your pineal gland while you sleep to experience dreams. It is produced every night when you enter heavy REM sleep, and in very large quantities right before human death, contrary to popular belief.
If DMT is ingested while you're awake, you experience the most psychedelic hallucinations physically possible. Joe Rogan describes it as being in another dimension, where everything is made of light and energy.
Although it's a natural chemical, it is also one of the most illegal. It's more illegal than any other drug, although we rarely hear about it.
It can be extracted from many, many organisms, like grass, and reptiles, but doing so is not advised, and will get your ass v& for sure.
Current status
Still around in certain circles, some religions use a stew-form of it for shamanic purposes
