"Dox" is a term used to describe a person's personal documentation and information on the internet. The information usually involved is phone numbers, home and work addresses, credit card information and email addresses.

Common usage

The term is generally used by hackers and trolls. Dox are posted and shared on websites and chan boards in order to instigate some form of IRL action against an individual or group of individuals. Typically the collating of a person's dox involves the meticulous scouring of the internet for any trace of their activity being connected to real-world information pertaining to the target individual, followed by formatting the information into a neat document (sometimes with tasteful ASCII art adorning the head) and the posting of said information to a website such as pastebin.

Methods of action taken against doxed individuals range from pestering phone calls, email bombs, emails to employers and pizza delivery.
