Summary

EDiot was a nickname for Encyclopedia Dramatica users. It's similar to other ED nicknames such as Dramatician (one who is versed in compiling and cataloging internet drama; all power users and early adopters of ED, ljdrama and frienditto were considered dramaticians) or Dramacrat (a connoisseur of drama, one who savors the best in internet hatred and destruction), only it was used more as a reference to ED trolling instead of EDiting. The term EDiot was Encyclopedia Dramatica's counterpart to "/b/tard".

Urban Dictionary has defined an EDiot as:

In layman terms, an EDiot is a Nazi-like sore on the ass of society. EDiots like to spew garbage rhetoric, Anti-Patriotic litanies and are apt to hide behind a keyboard and monitor. EDiots are also known to claim to have a military background when in fact they are for the most part some 16-year-old punk who can't go outside for fear of a righteous ass beating.

Origins

Coined on #ed by late ED sysop, OldDirtyBtard, in 2006.

Current status

Ownership of the moniker "EDiot" is debatable due to a schism between people who thought that racism was made OK if you said "only joking" afterwards, and genuine racists who didn't get that it was satirical. Both have set up websites, and the true owner will be decided in possibly the most uncomfortable court case on record.
