Summary
The United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales) is no longer the world's largest superpower, and the sun now sets on the British empire. However the UK, known for its queen and its pub culture, has some unique websites. It has its own chan, for instance, britfa.gs. That itself happens to be a replacement of Britchan, which shut down (Krautchan started its international section due to the shutdown of Britchan). Also we have Tim Berners-Lee, the man who invented the World Wide Web. Not only is he from London, but he also went to the University of Oxford. It also has a lot of chavs. As a bonus, it has Bear Grylls.
Origins
Pipex was the country's first commercial ISP. By 2006, the largest British broadband internet companies were BT Retail, NTL, AOL, Telewest, Tiscali, Wanadoo, Pipex, PlusNet, Virgin.net, and Tesco. In 2006 Northern Ireland became the first European region to have 100% broadband coverage. £10,000,000 of EU funding was used to give Northern Ireland high speed internet access.
When Britchan discovered that The Guardian was directly linking to an image of police confiscating an anti-Scientology placard, Britchan admins, along with Ebaumsworld and Enturbulation people, swiftly replaced the image with Goatse. The Guardian removed the image link after the switch.
Originally Britchan was the major chan, while Britfa.gs was a lower profile chan. After a 2009 hacking incident, the owner of Britchan refused to put the site back up. Krautchan founded the /uk/ board to accomodate the British refugees; that board is now called the /int/ board. Eventually Britfa.gs replaced Britchan.
For a period some soccer (known in the UK as "football") games were broadcasted over the internet exclusively. In 2009 the Football Association said that it wanted its games to be aired on live television. The country did not air any more internet-exclusive soccer games until after the 2010 World Cup.
