Fanfiction

Fanfiction is a term used to describe fans of a series writing fictional events involving characters from their favorite shows or movies.
In fact, it is a widely held fact that every animated movie or show has fanfiction. Fanfiction is, in the overwhelming majority of cases, a "slash" (non-canon) pairing of two characters or more, most often two male characters or more. Straight fanfiction is rare, but is often has a more rapid fanbase defending the pairings as "canon". If it's not a "slash" pairing, then it's a crossover. Commonly, fanfiction is abbreviated to fanfic or even slashfic.
Fanfiction is often looked at as humor due to the average user's lack of writing ability, weird sex scenes, as well as the addition of Mary Sue original characters who are often times the protagonist. The most infamous of these is My Immortal.
There are several websites that host fanfiction such as Fanfiction.net and AdultFanfiction.net. Despite one being "Adult" both essentially host porn, but AdultFanfiction's is more explicit in it's sex scenes.
Common usage
To abbreviate "fan-written fiction" or to denote a story that is non-canonical due to its authorship by a fan.
