The land of pastries and baguettes, with the home of Dailymotion and one of the principal members of Goatse Security.
Summary
France is the world's largest tourist destination. It has a culture of fine dining, the birthplace of the French language, the location of the French Revolution, a passion for soccer, immigrants from North Africa and Southeast Asia, its comic book culture (Asterix is from there, and Tintin and the Smurfs come from the French-speaking part of neighboring Belgium), and a very refined fashion sense. It also has a reputation for not having the most robust support for military operations (So some Americans call them "cheese-eating surrender monkeys"). It also operates on Latin time, and the people do not want to work themselves to death as the Germans do.
So what does France have to offer the internets? Firstly it's the home of Dailymotion, the world's second largest video sharing website. Yes, you can use Dailymotion in English. Yes you can upload your favorite videos of yourself and your friends on there. It's also the home of Sam Hocevar, one of the major members of Goatse Security. The meme Sarkozy Was There came from France. If you go on Krautchan's "int" board, many Polandball posters like to portray France as a "cheese-eating surrender monkey".
Origins
The idea of France started around King Clovis. Charlemagne first unified the country, but his empire later broke down. a Monarchy formed and held the country until the French Revolution. Napoleon took over after the revolution, and some generations after he went France became a republic. A French-German rivalry lead to two World Wars. Now France and Germany are friendly rivals and share a currency, the euro.
