Girl on the Internet Syndrome

'GOTIS for short.
Due to the fact that the fields of math and technology are mostly dominated by men, the appearance of a girl is rare, and is sometimes exciting prospect for lonely neckbeards. The response of a normal person in real life would be "Oh, a girl" and then moving on. But on the internet, that sadly isn't the case. The userbase of the site the girl has stumbled onto will often straight-up worship her as "The only girl on the Internet" and she will gladly embrace the attention, no matter how creepy it might be.
Many Internet nerds think that nerdy girls are rarer than the rarest pokemon, so many internet nerds are terrible with women and see a girl who has similar tastes and humor to them as the hardest thing to find on the planet. If you have just one of these people on a forum that there's a low number of girls on, and they're particularly desperate, they'll White knight for the girl, defend her from criticism, however deserved, and generally be her lapdog. When you have an entire forum doing this, the girl's ego swells to tragically large proportion, as she's upheld as the queen of her internet community and becomes above its rules.
The obvious symptoms of GOTIS are:
- Attention-seeking
- Arrogance
- Semi-nude photography
- Constant whining
- Narcissism
- Excessive flirting
- Fishing for compliments
- Expecting and accepting undeserved social privileges (ex. ops)
- Casually dropping hints about their gender over and over
- Being completely unaware of having GOTIS
- Denying GOTIS
Remember, if you are a female posting in a "troll" community (i.e. /b/) and you put personal information on the internet ever, you are forever branded a GOTIS sufferer and you will be ruined. The only questions are when and how.
Common usage
The term was originally coined by Sheneequa, but the subject has been around as long as there's been nerds, and only recently has it been given a name.
It is typically used whenever an Internet user calls out a girl on the Internet that is taking advantage of their gender to gain the aforementioned social privileges.

- That girl just has to show her breasts and the whole community worships her. Classic case of Girl on the Internet Syndrome.
- EDS1? Yeah, her GOTIS was out of control.
