Gaia Online is a mega social based site involving forums, games, and a mini economy involving "Gaia Gold". There is also a second type of currently known as as Gaia Cash that is only possible to obtain using real life cash. Gaia Gold and Gaia Cash can be used to redeem items on the site.
Origins
Gaia was founded in 2003 as Go-Gaia.com. This was changed in 2004 to GaiaOnline. This is likely because there are 0 relevant websites with punctuation in the domain name. Gaia was originally an anime linklist that developed a community, but the founder decided to move it towards being a game/forums site that could better raise money.
Current status
Gaia claims to receive 7 millions unique users per month. The website has 23 million registered users and approximately 100 paid employees. Gaia is often derided by 4chan. gb2//gaia is often shouted at those who overuse memes. While most of its forums are peaceful, Chatterbox also known as CB by users, has a never ending fetish over e-drama, usually trolls start.
