Summary

Ah, Foamy.

Foamy the squirrel originally appeared as the pet squirrel Germaine owned in the American Flash series Neurotically Yours. The series was meant to follow goth girl Germaine and her attempts at artistic success. However Foamy took over do to the popularity of his rants and Germaine took a back seat. Germaine now exists for little more than sex appeal (apparent by laughably sized tits) and to ironically fire off feminist remarks. Other characters in the show exist, but to little regard.

Back in those ancient days of the internet, when Newgrounds was top-dog and 4chan was just created, Foamy was one of many princes to walk around the jeweled tubes of the internet. This was due to Foamy's signature rants of sped-up and pitched-up voice (something that Yahtzee would later do), rage, excessive blood and violence, excessive cursing, LOL RANDOM phrases, angst, and a general mallgoth tone to the series. So in essence, Foamy was popular because he was EDGY! Of course, one can only be edgy for so long without it becoming old, and this is exactly what happened. For the entire 11 years Foamy has existed, he has barely changed, and remains almost as a time capsule to the internet of 2001. It even includes all the horrible animation from it's 2001 incarnation, mainly in the form of show-breaking lip syncing.

The show itself is infamous for it's rants, which basically calls everyone stupid, except for the creator himself, despite the series having taken such plot turns as: Germaine becoming obese, Germaine getting laughably huge breasts for no reason, Germaine becoming a prostitute, Germaine having a stalker, Germaine getting rejected from a publishing company, seeing Germaine basically naked, and Germaine getting raped (as a virgin!). CLASSY!

What the series comes off, then, is something similar to what Jhonen Vasquez would write if he had a webseries, liked it at first, but then absolutely loathed it because of his fans and tried pushing away as many people as possible by destroying it in whatever way possible. And then not succeeding.

Origins

Neurotically Yours premiered officially on September 10th, 2001. Where, no one is really sure. Neurotically Yours started regularly premiering on Newgrounds in 2003 about every 2 weeks. At the beginning, the show had more emphasis on Germaine. While not being animated very well, it was fine since at this point since Mathers (the creator) was still a beginner and was making these at a consistent pace. But good will as long run out, since Mathers has been making these for around 11 years, and little has improved, with the lip syncing being the most blatant of them all. Around 2005, Neurotically Yours had it's own website and the creator let Foamy take full control of the show. This is when the more "revered" episodes started appearing, up until about 2008

Current status

The show is now being shown on both Newgrounds and Youtube, in order to better stream the show. It should also be noted how Mathers also recently bombarded his audience with merchandise to buy, rivaling Insane Clown Posse levels of merchandising, and has not improved on his animations skills since 2005, reaching Tom Preston levels of incompetence. However, Mathers attempted to change this.

Reboot

In September 2011, Mathers took to taking a new art style... which is largely his old art style but cleaner. This, of course, needed a reason.

In August 2011, creator Jonathan Ian Mathers announced he would reboot the series in order to show off a new artistic style, and to due away with Germaine's "artistic self-destruction" that he decided to shoe-horn into a comedy series. The goal was to also make the show less "mature". In that all the philosophical stuff will be dropped. However, the animation is only slightly different, now having a new drawing style and having better movements, but lip syncing is still horrendous. Writing is still the same, besides dropping the melodrama. In the long run, it's barely noticeable things have changed.
