Summary

Krautchan is a German chan board. It was founded as a way for bernd (their version of Anonymous, originating in the blandness of the name "Bernd"), to congregate, discuss anime, internets, and whatever else is seen on chan websites.

Krautchan is mostly in German. Boards for the Germans include many of the boards at 4chan/boards (some under different letters due to the different language) as well as some boards unique to Krautchan.

Krautchan is hosted by someone known as Shaky on a private webserver in Florida. This American hosting allows the posting of some topics that are illegal in Germany (see here for more information).

The most notable board to Anglophones is /int/. /int/ was founded as /uk/ as an English speaking board for when Britchan went down, but has since expanded to accommodate people of all nations. /int/ uses little country balls to show where the IP of each poster is from. These balls turned into Polandball, a series of comics crapping on Poland. That feel is another /int/ meme that has been picking up steam on other websites.

Origins

Founded May 1, 2007. Krautchan members notably participated in chanology protests in 2008. Krautchan got its biggest traffic bump in March of 2009 when one bernd forged a threat by a mass shooter after the act. This threat was read on camera by the German home secretary. This can be seen in the videos gallery below.

Current status

Krautchan is still open and loved by German channers. This comes after closing for exactly one day in 2008.

Facts

  • If you don't speak German, but you speak English, /int/ is the only board you'll be able to understand (maybe).
