Summary
LinkedIn is a site where people post the jobs they've had and "connect" with current and former co-workers. There are also "groups" to join consisting of people with common interests or occupations, or even schools. Unlike sites such as Facebook or MySpace, the atmosphere appears to be very professional and lacking in drama of any sort.
Current status
Still up, with everyone still networkin'.
On June 6th, 2012, a Russian user on a hacking forum claimed that he hacked the site, producing a file containing 6.5 million encrypted and hashed passwords, sans usernames, as proof. While it only encompassed about 4% of the users, the resulting fallout has yet to be seen.
