Lolcats have helped to solidify the feline as the most popular animal on the internet. From 4chan to Facebook to macro sites, the lolcat is a commonly shared and often well liked meme.
Origins
The oldest lolcat images found date to the 1870s, shortly after the widespread availability of the camera. In the 1970s, a poster of a cat hanging by its paws from a tree branch, and captioned "Hang in there!" became popular.
The advent of the Internet in the 1990s saw the captioning of the cats with misspelled phrases, as if typed or said by a cat. Since 2007, the meme has become closely associated with the website "I Can Haz Cheezburger", which was acquired in September, 2007, for $2,000,000.00.

Active on nearly ever corner of the net.
