Summary

Luka Magnotta is a Canadian model and gay porn actor who has been in the news for Googlebombing his name for a Wikipedia article, uploading kitten-torture videos, and hosting a snuff film at his Montreal apartment.

The kitten killing video is what has really angered the internet. 4chan actively sought him for a few hours, then returned to masturbating into socks. Animal rights websites offered $5000 as reward money to whoever could identify the man in the kitten video, however the reward was never claimed.

The snuff film appeared on bestgore.com on May 25, 2012, and the partial remains of the victim were discovered outside Magnotta's Montreal apartment building on May 29, but Magnotta had fled to Europe. A manhunt ensued, and on June 4, Magnotta was returned to Montreal to face charges of murder, abuse of a corpse, and mailing parts of the victim to several places in Canada.

Origins

Magnotta was born Eric Clinton Newman on July 24, 1982 in Ontario. Luka claims to have gotten cosmetic surgery to remove facial scarring and to mitigate baldness.

Magnotta made several forgettable porn clips in the early 2000s, and thought this was good enough for Wikipedia. He was mistaken, but managed to get an article there based on the snuff flick.

Rise to fame

On May 24th, Magnotta allegedly murdered Chinese student Lin Jun and dismembered the corpse, videotaped part of the act, then mailed body parts to various places in Canada.[1]. Magnotta, aged 30, is in custody facing charges of murder, abuse of a corpse, and abuse of postal services. Police also said Magnotta knew the victim, whose dismembered corpse was found in Montreal on May 29. Magnotta mailed a hand and foot to the offices of the Federal Conservative Party of Canada. Needless to say, this resulted in a massive shitstorm in the old media. A little after a week, other parts of the corpse turned up in British Columbian schools. His victim's elderly parents arrived at Trudeau international airport on June 6th, from Wuhan, China. A fund has been established to cover thier expenses.[2]

Current status

Magnotta was caught in Berlin on June 4, 2012.[3]. He is currently in custody, facing charges of murder, abuse of a corpse, and abuse of the postal system. His trial is expected to begin in early 2013.
