Summary

Mario, older brother of Luigi, is the star of every game ever made by Nintendo (A Japanese video game company), everything ever posted on Newgrounds, and 90% of all fanart posted on the Internet.

Since he's so well-known, a lot of people quote him all over the Internet. Some draw crazy fanart. Like Weegee.

Origins

Mario was created by Shigeru Miyamoto, lead game designer of Nintendo, back in the 1980s. He was originally called "Mr. Video" and later was named after Mario Segale. Mario Segale was a landlord who owned the land where Nintendo of America's warehouse was.

Mario's iconic voice in the games is provided by Charles Martinet. At the auditions for Mario's voice they were looking for a Brooklyn accent for Mario so Charles promptly started babbling about pizza in a high pitched Italian voice.

Rise to fame

As stated before, Mario has starred in every single game shat out by Nintendo since 1980, including the ones where he doesn't make an appearance. While many sites feel the need to list Mario's games, that is not necessary- each one involves Mario crushing enemies to death by being a gargantuan fatass and "rescuing" the Princess, who has been kidnapped at least 100 times despite being constantly surrounded by the best and brightest security available in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Current status

Mario is super-popular. Because he has starred in hundreds games throughout the last couple decades, just about everyone alive today has grown up with Mario.
