Summary

You've probably heard of the death metal genre. If you don't care much for it, you may think of it as a bunch of guys grunting about Satan and shit with guitars thumping schizophrenically in the background. If so, you're pretty much correct. For some reason it's popular.

So after eight years of not releasing anything - the American band Morbid Angel, known as one of the death metal gods, released a single in late May called Nevermore. In it are two songs, one titled "Nevermore" and "Destructos VS the Earth (Remixed by Combichrist)" - yes, that Combichrist.

Now, we all know how accepting and peaceful metalheads are. They are great at trying new things and keeping an open mind, just as well as they are with upkeeping their personal hygiene and being able to have a job. So when the Combichrist remix was released, the Morbid Angel fans collectively shat themselves because "HURR WHAT IS THIS TECHNO CRAP!?" For being metalheads, a genre with a ridiculous amount of sub-genres (the heck is "unblack metal?"), they sure as hell can't get "techno" right.

Of all the remixes I've been asked to do I never expected one of the world's most notorious death metal bands to have an interest in hearing their music on the dance floor... However, 'Destructos' is one of those tracks that are so versatile that it could have been recorded as a folk song and it would still sound amazing. [...] I'm honored to be a part of this project and am excited to see how the Morbid Angel fans react to this unusual new direction.

Origins

Morbid Angel formed in 1984 and made an album called Abominations of Desolation in 1986. However, they weren't happy with that so it wasn't released until 1991 - instead, they released Altars of Madness as their first proper studio album in 1989. Altars of Madness' reception was positive, and the band became extremely successful, hailed as death metal gods.

Rise to fame

The success of Altars of Madness was their rise to fame. Beavis and Butt-head even had one of their music videos on the show.

Current status

Illud Divinum Insanus will be released in early June.

To all of you claiming to have heard the new album in it's entirely, where have you heard the tracks if the album isn't out yet?
