Summary

Big Mcln gives info about ponies.

In 2010, Lauren Faust (person behind Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends) revived the cartoon series My Little Pony, now known as My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The ponies live in Equestria, a magical land of friendship and female dominated society ruled by the Princess Celestia where they reproduce asexually, most likely by being grown on trees. Equitable to tribal lore and mythology, the Princess is a god among mortals, responsible for raising the sun at dawn with her younger sister raising the moon. However, the Princess takes up an active role in the lives of ponies and demands tribute and glorification in the eyes of her subjects. It's not clear why the praise is deserved, or why manual rotation of the sun and moon is necessary at all, but what is obvious is the emphasis on unconditional praise of a strong, independent female role model. The Moon Pony becomes jealous and tries taking over, before making FRIENDS and becoming good.

/b/ronies

While the love of My Little Pony was originally intended to be ironic (and that it was actually entertaining, it's actually hard to dislike the show), it has long since gotten of hand thanks to a certain group of people. These people are called /b/ronies. /b/ronies have since developed their own subculture around the show after they were kicked out of 4chan and have been creepily dedicated to it since, not unlike the phenomenon that is Mai Waifu or Otaku where they are unabashedly obsessed with the show. It has even gotten so far that they have developed their own board known Ponychan, made actually contact with the creator, have been attempting to make their own memes (though so far they have been nothing but pony variations of memes found on 4chan), and their own pony porn to "clop" to.

/mlp/

In mid-February, Moot decided to announce some new boards on 4chan. One of them was the Pony board, or /mlp/, a board that emerged on February 17, 2012 for /b/ronies so that they wouldn't infest /b/ or /co/ any longer. While /b/ronies could no longer spread cancer on other relating boards, it also meant that they could finally post peacefully on 4chan without leaving for other alternative image boards with dedicated pony boards. /b/ronies were now able to enjoy their magical, glittery circle clops and discuss why they think Twilight Sparkle is a slut and not Applejack without rightfully being saged and told to GTFO. Many speculated the board was a trap such as the /fur/ board several years back; set up by 4chan admins to collect the ip addresses of undesirables and promptly ban them from the site.

Derpy Hooves

Derpy

Perhaps one of the dumber, but at the same time one of the more legitimate, arguments that have happened in the fandom. Derpy Hooves was a background character largely in the first season with a crossed-eyes and a clumsy nature, due to an animation error. The fanbase quickly latched onto this and began naming her Derpy Hooves, after derping. Obviously meant to be clutsy and dumb, the fandom latched onto this with having be in love with muffins and being a mail pony by printing fan merchandise.

It eventually become popular enough that Lauren Faust decided to give Derpy a real voice and have her named on the show. Originally named Ditzy Hooves, the pony was renamed to Derpy Hooves on air and was given a... well... lisp. Bronies gave butt pats to each other for making another fan-cannon idea cannon. This caused quite the drama with some others, believing this version of Derpy to be completely ableist, which it was with the heavy and stereotypical lisp. In response to the outrage, Hasbro pulled the episode from iTunes and re-edited the episode to give Derpy a different voice, remove the reference to her name (changing the official name back to Ditzy), and altering her cross-eyes. This... did not go well at all with the pony community since they believed Derpy was going to be permanently removed leading to protests. Unsurprisingly the protests did not work. What resulted was the bitter schism in the pony community between pro-Derpy and pro-Ditzy, like the Protestants and the Catholics of old.

Now, Derpy has returned to her more cross-eyed original animation but still retains the later voice. Despite the drama being done, there is still resentment on both sides, mainly from the pro-Derpy camp attacking and threatening those who are pro-Ditzy. Ironic considering how those who are pro-Derpy tend to be more "derpy".

Origins

It was a cartoon on The Hub, a television channel, that has spawned a ridiculous amount of crap all over the Internet after /co/ found out it was actually good. You'll see pony .gifs and avatars no matter where you go.

Starting as a board raid from /co/ that got kind of got out of hand. It is now all over the internet after /b/ spread it across the internet. Threads on /b/ and /co/ are posted daily, where the /b/ronies and /co/lts post on /b/ and /co/, respectively. The boards are split on their opinions of the show, while some love it, others don't care, and others strongly dislike it. The spread from /co/ to /b/ was orchestrated by five people: the original bronies (Fluttershy, age 16, Applejack, age 22, Pinkiepie, age 20, Rainbowdash, age 23, and Big Mcln, age 14).

Current status

Still going. Friggin' everywhere. Cannot be stopped at this point. Something Awful is quite infected as well.

Facts

  • A common meme involving the show is "Fluttershy is mai waifu!"
