Summary

Webcast anime has a character constantly fail at gaining her favorite snack, which she follows each by making the sound "Nyoro~n." This concept grew into the focus of a large series of comics made by various people across the internet.

Origins

In early 2009, an animated adaption of the 4-panel Japanese manga series Nyoro-n☆Churuya-san was broadcast over the internet. "Nyoro-n☆Churuya-san" featured Churuya, a bizarre, stubby-looking version of Tsuruya-san (a minor character of another anime series). The general synopsis of every episode is about Churuya goes about her day doing various things, which don't tend to end as hoped. When faced with disappointment, the character makes the noise "Nyoro~n." After the show aired, internet users began to imitate it's styling for their own comics.

Current status

Though, not as popular as when it first appeared, the Nyoro~n comics still occasionally appear. They did take a small popularity loss after the Nyoro~n program had been found to contain a trojan.

Facts

  • The smoked cheese fixation was entirely an invention of the webcomic. When absentmindedly doodling, author Eretto originally chose smoked cheese as a food to mention out of her own fondness for the stuff.
  • Likewise, the Tsuruya-san character never said "Nyoro~n." "Nyoro~n" was an exaggeration of the character's verbal tic, where she'd occasionally add random sounds like "nyoro" or "megassa" to her speech.
  • Despite being based on Tsuruya, Churuya has very little in common with her predecessor. Whereas the former was known for being extremely hyperactive and abrasive, Churuya is more downtrodden. Then again, the entire point of the webcomic was to provide the silliest take on Haruhi possible.
