Summary
Offended was a shock page from Encyclopedia Dramatica that is used to bring the reader, by forcing them to view horrific images, to the conclusion that whatever they may have been put off by reading in no way compares to the truly offensive features of reality, a meaning which flew right over the heads of everyone who saw it.
Origins
Created August 17, 2007 by User:Fishing Cat "for a template i'm making", it covered the entire interface of the wiki with images of extremely gross and inappropriate acts and more, at the time known as the 'pain series'. Within a month it had evolved to contain the Limecat image at the top, which lures readers into a false sense of safety before they scroll into the horror that is 'offended'.
Current status
The "Offended" page of Encyclopedia Dramatica is gone, along with the rest of the site. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your view of the world) this putrid testament to human depravity can still be found on the WayBackMachine.
Facts
- At one point, this was the page with the most traffic on Encyclopedia Dramatica
- This page was sometimes used as a shock site substitute and part of the reason Encyclopedia Dramatica was so infamous.
