Just wanted to say how excited I am and how awesome this is. We're working hard for the good of the internet, wrenching it away from the hands of the traitorous and rending it back into chaos and lulz, for the good of the tubes. Thank you for your fealty.

- SHERROD. Seriously, if you could expose what is going on with an explanation as to what REALLY happened on the main page of the site, people would find it in their heart to forgive (if ED can be found in an archive). I realize ED, certainly, was unviable economically, and my first reaction (angry) is obsolete. But the core of ED user like me (I wrote the Anti-Americanism article (6000 bytes) a week before ED died) just want to know: WHY?

Is this the new wiki, or is ED coming back? If not are old articles going to be ported here, abandoned, completely overhauled, or wat? Shutupman 21:05, 14 April 2011 (CDT)
- A complete overhaul is necessary. -JohnnyMak 21:44, 14 April 2011 (CDT)
- no argument there, it just seems a waste to dump existing content. Granted the strikethroughs, unfunny meme speak etc are rampant in ED articles, they could easily be cleaned up. That said, I do not volunteer to translate everything into normal english. Am willing to edit for syntax/grammar/run on blahblah though Shutupman 22:05, 14 April 2011 (CDT)
- As someone who attempted to head an effort to clean up and improve, I can definitely vouch for the fact that trying to do so was so much of a losing battle that it wasn't even funny. Instead, we rise like a phoenix from the ashes, newly reformed and beautiful once more.

- Will there at least be an archive of ED? It would be beneficial for starting points for many articles, and should just be available without using the waybackmachine or some other cache bot imo. p.s. 3 indents is the max i guess :( Shutupman 04:27, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Yeah, I do agree it does seem like a waste at first glance, but it really is more trouble than it's worth considering more factors. --JohnnyMak 22:13, 14 April 2011 (CDT)
- Well sure, constant DMCA claims, along with various takedown orders I'm sure. That was what made ED great though :( If no one bucks the system, "they" win. Insert anarcho-anti-social-segregatonalist statement here. Shutupman 22:21, 14 April 2011 (CDT)
- ed definitely wasn't clean and tbh it wasn't very funny either, but what it was was approximately 7 years of Internet culture, and I really don't see how any new source can stand up to that. The most you can hope for is that the basic essentials are recorded. It will take at least 7 years or more to have anywhere near the amount of content ed had, and the community it had. Welp
This is a pretty cool clone you of KYM you guys have here. Counting the days before this shuts its doors. This will never be what ED was. I read some articles. They aren't even funny. They blow. SFW?? Thats just asinine. There's already tons of sites that are SFW meme repositories. ED was different. The old internet is clearly long gone if this is the crap that gets made now. Good luck morons. Zell65 00:57, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- This isn't a meme repository and a lot of people don't seem to get that. It will cover everything ED did, minus non-internet stuff. Just go away, you're not helping. --JohnnyMak 00:59, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- There's no way this is going to cover the years of fuckery that ED had and still be worksafe. It can't be done. You can't neuter the internet and package it for this place, adorn the whole thing with wholesome ads for Amazon and expect it to work. This won't attract the same scum of ED who really knew the culture, and you won't be able to make progress without them. Sorry, that's how it is. Zell65 01:04, 15 April 2011 (CDT)

- have to agree here, this place won't attract the EDiot crowd as no one wants to spend all their time creating hundreds of the same articles over again just because some idiot decided it was time to start over. And the mainstream crowd already has KYM, which has many years over you. Even if you claim to Aim higher and record more than just memes, you're just too far behind to catch up. - I never thought that. It was a wiki. It could easily be deleted even without a reboot. No wiki edits can be classified as permanent, or always going to be here. Plus, every instance of pop culture, and doubly so for internet pop culture, is pretty transient. --

- Won't appeal to the EDiot crowd? Good. We don't need unneeded attack articles nor slur spam. Seriously, how much ED have you read over the years? Mid-2010 and forward was pathetic and showed that we had 13 year old kids trying to be edgy and cool, not people trying to do the satire. We've eliminated the satire because it was abused. You don't like it? Cry harder. We don't care. We like what we've built and so do others. Just remember, it's ED's userbase who's at fault for it's disappearance. You people didn't help it in it's time of need and let it deteriorate.Truthillusion 01:41, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- just wondering what the community will be like. Obviously the people who are involved in imageboard and general internet culture won't want to record phenomena in a sfw format because most of the content itself is not sfw. Where will the info come from if not them?
- The Ohi community is the ED community that got tired of dealing with the pointless crap of immature children. NSFW events can easily be written into a SFW format if given proper thought. Some may be challenging, but it's certainly never going to be impossible. As for the "culture" that wouldn't want to record it's stuff due to NSFW, they didn't want to record it when we allowed NSFW as it was then. And, please sign your posts, Jimbob. Goodnight, Sweet Prince
The time that I had never thought would come has arrived; ED is dead. Am I unhappy about it? Absolutely. Am I here to whine and bitch? No. I wanted to say one final goodbye to site that stole my innocence, jaded me to the core and made me laugh. Without ED, I would not be the person that I am today. It taught me more than any class ever could; I learned that you do not become a man at 13 years old, or when you drink your first beer, or when you bone your first woman, it is when you are able to not scream when the jar that you inserted into your anus shatters. I learned that when african-american men conglomerate around a swimming pool in Habbo Hotel, shit is about to go down. I learned not to fuck with Anon.
To those who made the existence of such a website possible, be it writers, mods, patriots who donated to the site, I thank you all from the very bottom of my heart. You devoted thousands of hours of your time to educate the citizens of the internet on what is wrong with humanity and made it fucking hilarious at the same time. You were pelted with DMCA claims and lawsuits, but you kept it up. With all this said, I ask but one favor of the writers and mods of Oh Internet; do not let this become Know Your Meme. This site may never be what ED was, but please don't let it become what KYM always has been: funny only to 13 year olds.
It's been a fun 5 years ED.
Goodnight, sweet prince.

- Make note that OhI has been open for less than 24 hours. While the writers attempted to get as much content in as possible, it was more of a rush job because we were trying to fill the wiki up as much as possible before opening. It is up to people like you to inject the humor and love into the articles.--Teakettler 11:35, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- You should make note that you really can't improvise with content on ohinternet.com. I tried to make some edits that were in good taste, and they were reverted by the admins. I'm completely convinced that any semblance of this idea is only to keep people in line while ohinternet.com becomes another meme database. Silivrenion 11:40, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Looking at your "improvements" versus the normal version after reverted, there's no real reason to be upset for it being reverted. All that was gotten rid of was a pointless joke. If that's what really inspires you to leave, then go ahead and leave. But, quite frankly, that's a dumb reason to despise the site. Your joke didn't improve anything (nor did it really hinder). It was just meh. I hope you stay and try to help the site grow, but I'm not going to lose sleep if you decide to leave.Truthillusion 15:17, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Let's look at the bright side: in the end, none of those USI folks who threated to put down ED succeded in doing so. ED unplugged itself.

What do you people honestly think you add to your precious internets anymore that they haven't? Also, there was WhatPort80, why didn't you just use that instead of buying out the whole damn domain and making your own site? - LEAVE ED ALONE 05:26, 15 April 2011 (CDT)

- When did we buy out the domain exactly? I want to be clear on how we didn't own the domain from the start. --
- where is the point of having a Line Trap article if you can't see his dick?! Fertigmensch 08:32, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Sorry, I'm a bit confused. You want to see Line Trap's dick? I'm a bit confused about how any normal straight guy could actually willingly look up something to see someone's dick. Please explain this to me. -GondorCanada 11:21, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- If you're going to ask that, you should also ask why you have an article on Line Trap at all. Line Trap is an internet-famous trap. His dick is the jewel around which is fame is built. It doesn't even make sense to have an article about him without it. It would be like taking the Bible and removing God from it.

- I've said this before on IRC: Rootbrian has not won by any means, because, in the end, he will go to bed and he will still be rootbrian. That's his curse. No matter what he does, no matter how hard he tries, he'll always be rootbrian, and nothing anyone has ever done or could ever do will make that worse. --GondorCanada 11:29, 15 April 2011 (CDT)

It's worse than that, ED's dead, Jim...
So let me understand this completely. You're going to superimpose a new website where ED was, and expect all the old followers of ED to just deal with it? That's ridiculous. I'll say that I'm not a little thirteen year old immature editor, but I love that ED was that place that you could go to hear irrational comments about rational subjects and biased viewpoints blaming incomprehensible subjects. You've destroyed the internets. I understand you thought it may be a good idea to standardize and become something more respectful, but you've legitimately lost readers now. Bring back ED, before the internets do it for you.Silivrenion 09:23, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- "legitimately lost readers"?
- lrn2english.
- Legitimately, illegitimately, who cares? That's skirting the issue that you (collectively, the mods) have destroyed a community. I'm not going to get in a n00b flamewar about it; my point is clear. I understand ED started as something different and evolved, but there are people who enjoyed it and want it back. Silivrenion 09:37, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- " and expect all the old followers of ED to just deal with it?" Well no, of course we saw this coming.--GondorCanada 11:23, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- It's a poor move on the admin's part to just remove ED. It contained a ton of culture and history on it. That's like removing Wikipedia in favor of a brand new site with no content imported. If there was any sense in the matter, ED would at least become read-only on archive.encyclopediadramatica.com. Kicking people out of a community they enjoyed is NOT a way to get any kind of readership. And you know, I've given "Oh, Internet..." a chance. I edited some pages with some funny, yet appropriate content and it was reverted. You've completely changed the concept of the website, and forced users out without any options. I just hope you guys can deal with the "encyclopedic drama" that you've (collective) created with this move. Silivrenion 11:32, 15 April 2011 (CDT)

What about Ae-tan? Is it Oi-tan now? Does she look the same or is there some sort of competition to design an all-new mascot...?

its horrible
seriously what is with this fuck awful format, theres so much wasted space on either side of the actual content area, and it makes it annoying to read articles. maybe it'd be cool if everyone was still using 4:3 screens, but anyone with a 4 or 5 year old computer or newer has widescreen. or is it to make it look good on phones? Somehow, within the depths of my heart, I knew this would happen. Things were getting too much out of control. ED was basically an anarchic wiki, and was going to explode. In all honesty I do better with SFW then NSFW. I look foward to some laughs.

Goodbye Lulz, Hello LOLs
What made ED so awesome was the chaos, the randomness, the ... not-give-a-fuck-what-you-think attitude. And seriously, how can you document internet culture in a Politically Correct, Safe for Work format? I support you guys in your venture and wish the best for you, but I think you've made the wrong decision.
Long Live ED!
Giacomo Puccini 14:13, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
Just plain sad.
To the highbrow "ED sucked and you're all douchebags for having liked it, wheat waves bye-bye to chaff" people... have it your way. But please make a backup of the old ED and put it in a torrent. Sure there were plenty of retarded articles about trolling aspies and such, but it's pretty callous to just DELETE FUCKING EVERYTHING without even a 24 hour notice. This really is like a bookburning. There were genuinely hilarious articles on there that will never be replaced, anywhere, ever. Again, the highbrow people are about to reply with "that's the point", but to them I say: you know who else tried to exterminate every culture he didn't like?
- Yes I am really getting sick of this "holier than thou" attitude of the users of this site, calling ED terrible and unfunny when they don't seem to realize that's exactly what this is. You take down YEARS of hard work WITHOUT WARNING and expect us to be perfectly fine with it? Christ. Jimbob 22:49, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- The reason why it seems we have a "holier than thou" attitude is because you all act the same way and we challenge you on it and don't fold. The people who spent YEARS of HARDWORK wanted and like Ohi. You probably never did shit on ED to begin with, which seeing as your only contributions to Ohi is whining and complaining. Your opinion would matter more if you actually did something instead of whining.Truthillusion 23:27, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- it's unfortunate that my whole opinion centers around my dislike of this site and my unwillingness to contribute to it Jimbob 02:05, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
- So, in otherwords, you're coming to this site specifically to complain about this site's existence? 'Cuz, you know, that'll accomplish something other than wasting your time.Truthillusion 13:44, 16 April 2011 (CDT)

And that is exactly why we should not edit oh Internet, nor visit for that matter: we now know the admins can close the website without even a notification, so what is the point of editing it? The site really is unfunny and there is no freedom on editing. Mattsnow 15:30, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
OMG WHERE IS ED AND WUT IS THIS
YEAH SO I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL FOLLOWER OF ED FOR YEARS AND I WROTE NUMEROUS AMAZING ARTICLES AND DONATED ENOUGH MONEY TO KEEP THE SERVERS RUNNING SINGLE HANDEDLY SO I DEMAND YOU BRING ED BACK BECAUSE IT MAKES NO SENSE TO MAKE AN ENTIRELY NEW WIKI THAT IS SFW THERE IS NO POSSIBLE REASON YOU COULD DO THIS AND HAVE IT MAKE SENSE CUZ ED IS LIKE THE GREATEST PIECE OF INTERNET CULTURE EVER AND YOU ALL ARE STUPID FOR THINKING THIS IS GONNA WORK and etc. Truthillusion 15:33, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
(I KNO RITE? HOW COULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO MAKE FUNNY ARTICLES WITHOUT IT BEING NSFW. BAWWWWWWWWWW. I HAVE TO GO INTO GOOGLE AND CACHE EVERY ARTICLE BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO)-shit nobody cares about.
Fendaril 15:42, 15 April 2011 (CDT)

- Just admit your whining for the sake of whining and not any legitimate reason.Truthillusion 17:05, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Just admit that there was no reason to delete ED to somehow make room for this unfunny wiki, with its different goddamn domain name for christ's sake. --Algeranon 23:39, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Just admit that you don't know the full issue and are assuming that this was the choice that we necessarily wanted to make, when in actual fact we had no alternative. --GondorCanada 23:51, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Ok then, wish you'd have said that in the first place instead of "every instance of pop culture, and doubly so for internet pop culture, is pretty transient" etc. Wasn't at all clear that this was a forced move. I'm certainly willing to help with the DMCA-proofing of ED snapshots, got nothing to do but wait on a grad school admissions committee. --Algeranon 02:04, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
- It's still true that every piece of pop culture is temporary, but there wasn't a real alternative and we wanted to give this a go and see how it's gonna turn out. --GondorCanada 03:40, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
I WROTE EVERY ARTICLE ON ED ABOUT HOW FAGGOTS WERE TAKING THE INTERNET TOO SERIOUSLY AND I DON'T THINK YOU'RE TAKING THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY ENOUGH I WANT MY PAGES AND PAGES CALLING ROOTBRIAN A LOSER BACK SO I CAN CONFIRM THAT ROOTBRIAN IS A LOSER --GondorCanada 21:50, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
A shame, people.
It was fun whilst it lasted boys and girls, welcome to the homogenisation of the internet. Chipp Zanuff It's an utter abomination.

- People get pissed if you burn down a library, it's true. Still have yet to hear a single reason why there is no ED archive, and no, the "we'll have a few but we won't say which ones or when you'll get them" doesn't really cut it. I mean, there were articles that I could read once a week and still laugh... Michael "Ron Mexico" Vick comes to mind. But now someone had to go and erase the etch-a-sketch because they got jealous of the artistic kid. That'll show him!--Algeranon 23:47, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- We'd lose section 230 immunity. If we could do an archive, we would. --GondorCanada 23:49, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Oh please. Just make ED-all-pages-archived.rar, slip it onto Rapidshare, delete this discussion, and wash your hands of it. After all, anyone could have easily saved every single page with a DownThemAll script. Y'all had nothing to do with it.--Algeranon 00:10, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
- You mean, do something that we legally can't do that could be traced back to us, that other people have already done, with something that would take 707 gigabytes? --GondorCanada 03:08, 16 April 2011 (CDT)

Why don't images properly show up?
Just been adding images to articles in their image sections, some which appear on the page don't appear listed on the edit screen whilst and also they appear on the edit screen but don't appear on the page. Just wondering this is a bug? --Sirmudkipz 07:55, 16 April 2011 (CDT)

A wild Softwarez appears!
Since I can't get on the IRC to let you guys know this, I discovered this morning that a new Softwarez Wikia created by some guy who was a supporter of the old Softwarez portal. If anyone wants to help him out and bring back some of the old Softwarez content (which for some reason most of it has no relevance to the new OHI), I would encourage it. --SadMonkey 11:43, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
- seems cool, I found a torrent of all of the text files as of Feb 2011. I'll post it...
Slavetoneffy 14:20, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
- Awesome. You win one Internet. Wayback didn't archive ANY of the Portal:Softwarez stuff. And anything in the Category:Softwarez was last archived in 2009. --SadMonkey 14:29, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
Shitty tumblr blog claming stolen name
Pretty big coincidence I'd say, OH INTERNET! is also a tumblr blog and there is definitely confusion, most people seem to think its an affiliated account, not much is happening on the blog honestly, seems like whoever runs it likes to post crappy image macros all day. --Bob 16:14, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
- "They stole my name, and gave it to some shitty website." I like how somebody running a Tumblr account full of re-blogs called a legitimate website shitty. Lol. --Teakettler 16:25, 16 April 2011 (CDT)
I miss ED
This isn't going to be a whining post about how much ED rocked. I know it had its problems. I know that pages of it were a trainwreck. But it was OUR trainwreck, dammit.
I really enjoyed ED. It generated some first-class lulz. I know parts of it were a mess.
It just saddens me that now, because a handful of people have decided that ED wasn't any good, one of my favourite sites on the internet is gone forever.
What would have been wrong with having two sites: OI and ED? Why did the birth of OI have to mean the death of ED? I don't get it.
I hope people enjoy this new site. I honestly do. I think the hits you get (vs the hits ED got) will be the acid test, as it were. But the whole thing is just a bit depressing.
Bawwww, I know.
ETA: Also, I've just been reading through the previous comments. You guys weren't the only ones who contributed to ED. You seriously weren't.
ETA2: An anon has just told me, in great detail, about what happened and exactly why the plug was pulled on ED. I guess there's nothing else which could have been done.
Shit was decidedly not cash.
Bfish 08:11, 17 April 2011 (EDT)
- If an Anon is telling you why this all happened, there's a 99% chance they're wrong. All they've done is start believing false rumors.Truthillusion 13:30, 17 April 2011 (EDT)
- Although it is sad to see ED go (RIP sweet prince) I can see why the owners pulled the plug on the site. ED did have it's pros and cons, but the internet is changing. There were so many articles that were trainwrecks and no matter what many did it was impossible to save most of them. Still, there were a few recent cleanups these past few months, like the past Tv Tropes ED article for example, that shouldn't be wasted by simply purging them to oblivion.
- The only thing that bugged me was that we didn't even have a little warning about this major step in future lulz. We could have saved the good parts of ED, copypasted them here and there and then modified them to OI standards. I actually look foward to the lulz that this brand new site will provide, though I'll still miss ED. You can stand under my umbrella-brella-brella-ehy-ehy-ehy! 14:00, 17 April 2011 (EDT)

- I just love how out of the blue they delete the entire thing. People spent time working on some of those articles. People also spent money to keep ED afloat. Who do you people think you are? Your essentially screwing over those few who contributed good articles or payed donations. Unless this is a elaborate troll attempt. Also there is the issue of more then a few people here treating the old userbase like trash. When people come to you and ask what the hell happened to something they enjoyed, you should not welcome them with a mixture or arrogance, rudeness and Unwarranted Self Importance. I still await a explanation as to why ED was shut down and why they would delete it without warning. --Bv900 15:36, 17 April 2011 (EDT)
