Summary
"Richard McBeef" is a short play by Seung-Hui "Seung" Cho, an English major at Virginia Tech, an American university. Richard McBeef had been adapted into several YouTube filmed productions of varying qualities.
Origins
Cho wrote "Richard McBeef" as part of an English assignment. His classmates felt creeped out by this play and other plays and short stories from the author, a South Korean national permanently living in the United States. Cho had mental health issues. The play would have never achieved notoriety had it not been for Cho's actions, triggered by his mental paranoia.
Cho planned and executed a horrible massacre at Virginia Tech in 2007. As the public sought answers, people discovered "Richard McBeef" and another play, "Mr. Brownstone." Upon reading the very low quality plays, YouTube users decided to make filmed adaptations of "Richard McBeef," and Something Awful made a parody CliffsNotes.
Current status
Lately people haven't been making more adaptations.
