Tumblr sites set up for a single topic or purpose
Summary
Many people have set up specialty tumblr pages to house categories of images or certain memes. Many of these sites are known for being ridiculous or overly specific, in many cases this adds to the humour such as in the case of the popular Lesbians who look like Justin Bieber site.
Sometimes the specialty topic is so ridiculous it becomes well known solely for that reason such as on the Paula Deen riding things Tumblr.

An ESL teacher in Asia shows images to her students and has them write captions with stories about the images. Often the images are memes from around the internet.
Lesbians Who Look Like Justin Bieber
As the title implies, this site has images of lesbians who look like pop star Justin Bieber.
Muppets with people eyes
High quality photoshops of various muppets with human eyes. The affect is creepy and hits right within the uncanny valley.
Paula Deen Riding Things
Images of celebrity chef Paula Deen riding various objects, people and animals. Many of the original images are from when she actually did ride on the back of one of her staff members at a press event.
On Good Morning America Paula was shown some of the images and tells a lovely story about them.

Images of old people being strange or doing weird things.
Tumblr4men
A Tumblr's attempt at being manly.
if you watch it backwards
This tumblr gives the plots of movies, current events or other media and explains them in reverse order, often changing the meaning or narrative. This is a pretty classic meme in itself, put into serial tumblr form.
the daily otter
A new otter picture each day.
Doorknob girl
A Japanese tumblr of a girl in her 20s and various doorknobs. Interestingly, this site manages to remain safe for work.
Kim Jong-il Looking at Things
North Korean dictator and best golfer in the worldKim Jong-il observing various things in various situations, often through a pair of huge sunglasses. This is one of the earliest specialty Tumblrs and one of the most popular.
Origins
Tumblr was founded in 2006 and is a powerhouse of blogs, mainly for hipsters and "web 3.0" types.
Current status
Many of these specialty Tumblers are created all the time.
