Summary
Spengbab is the twisted, Lovecraftian evolution of SpongeBob SquarePants, a beloved American cartoon character. He has appeared in many forms, each one becoming horribly more grotesque and disgusting than the last. While Spengbab commonly appears as fanart drawn by the criminally insane, his presence is not unheard of in various mind-scarring videos.
Origins
The origins of Spengbab are somewhat vague. It is said that once upon a time, Spongebob got lost on his way to an important place and ended up in an unknown location after consulting Mapquest for directions. Upon arrival he was welcomed by the locals with a forcibly complete makeover so he would fit in better. However, the more he stayed, the more his likeness became gruesomely disfigured and hideous until he became what is now known today as Spengbab.
The meme itself doesn't seem to have any particular place of origin, but it is speculated by some to have been spawned by the one and only Internet Hate Machine.
Current status
It is becoming creepier with every new image, and is spreading like a vicious illness (but not like the bad kind). Spengbab's influence has also been spilling over to other fictional universes like a being of an unknown and terrifying dimension where its normal residents appear to us as repulsive monsters.
