Strikethrough

Strikethrough refers to scribbling in the manner of a horizontal line crossing out text, typically used for corrections or a bad way of trying to tell a joke. Strikethrough is notable for being an overused gag, often possessing the characteristics of trying too hard, and many see it as one of the more painfully annoying things the internet could do without. While one can sometimes never be funny using strikethrough, it has been spammed for the purpose of humor in similar ways that memes are spammed; sucking all droplets of potential humor dry, thus rendering it as an eyesore.

It's best that you stay far away from any strikethrough usage. Seriously, don't use it!

Common usage

Strikethrough is mainly used to correct a factual inaccuracy or for humor's sake. On wikis such as Uncyclopedia, strikethrough is an important component and an ideal way of making things "funny" (if one finds pages filled with random gibberish and the letter "A" to fill up a page as something funny). Such usage was not tolerated on Encyclopedia Dramatica, as strikethrough, along with meme spouting, abusing pipes, and an endless array of articles focusing on nobodies on DeviantArt, were one of the many major factors as to why ED had to be put out of its misery. These things that continually ruined ED were branded as "The AIDS that is killing ED".

There also exists different types of strikethrough, such as double or triple strikethrough. Though these usually have no special meaning other than emphasizing a point.
