Summary
An initiative started in 01/04/12 meant to make /b/ stop using memes born before 2012 as they've fallen into hands of 9gaggers and redditers (amongst others) and start using new memes such as Lucifer, born in the same thread that gave a push to the situation.
The term "The Great Cleansing" was given in the second thread related to the event, after the first one had been deleted by mods.
Origins
On Tuesday 01/03/12, a thread was posted in /b/ stating that trips (3 of the same number at the end of the post number) would decide which meme should /b/ stop using. The first reply with trips on the post decided that /b/ should stop using memes older than that day, and a second reply with different trips backed up the idea.
On 01/04/12 a second thread was started spreading the event. The term was given by a poster with quads (same as trips, but with 4 numbers instead of 3) and the idea was settled.
