A web counter or hit counter shows the number of visits to a website or a web page. They were especially common in the 1990s. They can be kinda fun to show off to friends and family, but don't take them too seriously as they can be manipulated!
Often used by web designers to show how "popular" their page is.
- Mommy, the counter says 100,000 people visited my site!
- Joey's web counter says 2,501, but it's is wrong. His friend just clicked refresh 2,500 times.
- Maddox has some interesting web counters on his pages. For instance the iPhone page says "5,358,720 people who bought an iPhone hadn't heard of the Nokia E70 until now because Nokia's marketing team is too busy tossing salad to get the word out."
