Summary

The Webby Awards are an annual award for the best website evar. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences selects the winners of the contest.

Origins

Glenn Davis, the owner of "Cool Site of the Day," decided to found an annual award for the best website. Originally the award was called the "Cool Site Of The Year Award." The first award, in August 1995, went to The Spot. International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences was formed in 1998.

  • 1999: Amazon.com won the award for "Best Commerce Site"
  • 2000:
    • Napster won the "Best Music Site"
    • The Stile Project won the "People's Voice" and "Weird Site" categories.
  • 2001: Craigslist won the award for "Best Community"
  • 2002: The Onion won the award for "Best Humor"
  • 2003: Google won the award for "Technical Achievement"
  • 2004: Wikipedia won the award for "Best Community"
  • 2005: Skype won the award for "Best Telecommunications"
  • 2006: Flickr won the award for "Best Navigation/Structure"
  • 2007: The Extreme Diet Coke & Mentos Experiment won the award for "Best Viral Video"
  • 2008: Facebook won the award for "Best Social Networking"
  • 2009: Twitter won the award for "Breakout Of The Year"
