Summary

Your average /b/tard
/b/ refers to a section of the imageboard 4chan. Among Imageboards, /b/ is typically the name given to the "random" board. The most popular of which is 4chan's /b/. It is home to many inside jokes known as memes, dark humor, and a very large and growing userbase.

Origins

If you bother to read the rules, you'll see /b/ is meant to be nothing short of a retard bin for now. It will be changed within the week. The site has existed for only two days now guys, sorry if I can't put up forty boards at once.

/b/ was 4chan's first board. Its creator moot had originally made it as an American version of the Japanese Futaba Channel also known as 2chan. 4chan's /b/ expanded rapidly. Many other boards were added but /b/ is still its most popular.

/b/ is responsible for bringing the anonymous subculture into mainstream light. It has been publicized by Fox News for being a terrorist organization on several occasions as has anonymous by many other media organizations.

Current status

/b/ has been responsible for bringing a majority of the traffic to 4chan. The site now has over 700,000 unique visitors per day. The board is known for moving very fast, typically so fast that the main page will have brand new content every few seconds. This fast paced environment makes for a less moderated environment. The anonymous nature of posting also leads to less filtering of the comments that users choose to post. All of this together makes a very open forum for discussion. Its open nature also means that it is filled with NSFW content such as gory images, racism and the occasional illegal post. In fact, it is very difficult to find SFW content on /b/.

Users of the board have taken to calling themselves "/b/tards" These /b/tards tend to be very harsh on one another. There is very little positive community support, though it does exist. There also exists a dichotomy between perceived "newfgs", users whom are thought to be new to the site and not accustomed to established norms, and "oldfgs", posters which have been on the site for a while and know the proper etiquette and history.
