The this is SPARTA! meme originated from the trailer of the movie 300. In fact by the time the film hit the movie theatres there were almost countless permutations of the original concept.

Current status
The phrase "THIS IS SPARTAAAA" and its variations have pretty much died out, but King Leonidas heads still pop up from time to time.
