Summary
Ted Stevens was a former WWII fighter pilot and the longest serving Republican United States Senator in history. He achieved worldwide infamy when on June 28, 2006, he coined the phrase, "The Internet is a Series of Tubes."

Rise to fame
Apart from his political achievements Stevens is most famous for his overly simplistic description of how the internet works. The phrase was used widely to criticize Stevens for his lack of knowledge about how the internet works despite being in charge of regulating it.
Current status
Ted Stevens was among five people that died in a plane crash on August 9, 2010 near Dillingham, Alaska. Four others survived. The floatplane was en route to a fishing site when it collided into a mountainside due to fog.
Stevens is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
