Intended to be a scabrous, irreverent parody of TOW, it's actually about as funny as a third-grade geography teacher telling lightbulb jokes.

Summary
Uncyclopedia was one of the first mediawiki based comedy sites (comedy being used very loosely), which eventually switched to Wikia for hosting and have been fairly influential in starting some internet memes, most notably "You will be eaten by a Grue" and "Chuck Norris facts". Since they let just about anyone without an account edit the wiki, it became filled with unfunny sentence-long articles, lists of unfunny things and an occasional good article, while the actual editors grew apathetic and placed more importance on idling in the IRC channel. Noob-like users from both Uncyc and ED would constantly whine about the other site, imply they were in direct competition and try to organize vandalism raids to prove how big their e-peens were.
Uncyc has versions in several languages, including German, Spanish and Japanese, where they all rank fair highly on Alexa for most visited sites in their native countries. Even though they have a full article with good advice titled "How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid", new users don't pay attention to the article and old users don't rewrite already terrible ones.
The version with the most articles is actually the Portuguese one (Desciclopédia), with the English version coming second.
Origins
Chronarion and Stillwaters started Uncyclopedia as a parody of Wikipedia on January 5th, 2005, with the stated goal to "provide the world's misinformation in the least redeeming and most searingly sarcastic and humorous way possible, through satire".
Current status
The English Uncyclopedia is the second most popular wiki hosted on Wikia, losing to the Yu-gi-oh wiki. The users idle in the IRC channel more than they edit and most new articles are written by new users who haven't read the "How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid" article.
